Alcohol Delivery in Western Australia (WA)

  • Updated

The Liquor Control Amendment Regulations 2021 came into effect on 1 February 2022. For the main changes, see here.

Same Day Deliveries

A "same day" delivery refers to any alcohol that is delivered on the same calendar day it was purchased. The following conditions apply:

  1. The purchaser or a nominated recipient must be present to accept the delivery and must be over the age of 18. The licensee must inform the delivery agent of the purchaser's name and any nominated recipients.
  2. The person accepting the delivery must show a current ID document to confirm their age and identity.
  3. If the person accepting the delivery is not the purchaser/nominated recipient or is under 18, the alcohol cannot be delivered.
  4. The alcohol cannot be left unattended.

Next Day Deliveries

A "next day" delivery refers to any alcohol delivered at least the calendar day after it was purchased. These deliveries may be left unattended or delivered to an adult.

Delivered to an Adult:

  • Any adult can accept a next day delivery, but they must show a current ID document to confirm they are over 18.

Unattended Delivery (Next Day Delivery Only):

  • The purchaser must agree to the alcohol being left unattended at the property at the time of purchase.
  • The purchaser must specify the location where the delivery should be left.
  • The alcohol cannot be left in a place visible to passers-by. This includes common areas of a strata complex where others can easily see it.
  • If the alcohol packaging does not have obvious markings indicating it contains alcohol, it can be left unattended in a specified safe place.
  • If delivery agents are uncertain about leaving the package unattended, they can take it to the nearest delivery agent office for safekeeping. A note should be left for the purchaser/nominated recipient with instructions on how to collect the package with appropriate ID.

Sherpa's Age and Identity Verification:

  • Sherpa driver partners will ask to see a valid ID and record the following in the app:
    • Type of ID
    • Date of Birth
    • Name on ID

If the specified recipient is not available at the delivery address, or the specified recipient or the recipient is showing signs of intoxication, or is believed to be under 18 years of age, a paid return will be logged back to the store.
