ASAP Service Overview

  • Updated

Here's what you need to know about how you can utilise this service on the Sherpa platform:

Service Availability:

  • Locations: ASAP deliveries are available in all locations. Surcharges apply for specific locations, such as our standard Central Business Districts location fee and non-major metro cities. A full list will be published once the product is available.
  • Vehicle type: ASAP deliveries can be completed by any vehicle type. Please note that choosing a Van for your delivery has surcharges and could impact delivery times
  • Service availability: Sherpa’s standard business hours are 8:00 am to 7:00 pm across all Australian time zones (8 am to 8 pm AEST). Our customer service centre is accessible until 7.30 pm AEST). Please note that the system will flag orders outside of these hours or where distances or selected ready times as these may not fit into regular estimated delivery times.

Setting up your ASAP deliveries:

ASAP delivery bookings are what we call ‘on-demand’ bookings. As such, they cannot be pre-booked or scheduled.

Things to note when setting up your delivery:

  • Delivery Distance: You’ll be provided with a 'Deliver By' time indication in the booking process. You can choose any distance; however, for distances over 20 km, the Deliver By time may be extended depending on the time of day and network capacity.
  • Bundling deliveries: We use routing technology to determine which deliveries can be grouped together. This helps reduce our carbon footprint by reducing the number of drivers needed to complete your deliveries. Our system uses varying factors to make this determination, including, but not limited to, delivery timeframes, locations, vehicle types, item quantity, and order weight.
    • Each ASAP booking when logged at the same time, will have the same "item ready at" time, which will factored into the bundling conditions, along with the following factors:
      • A maximum of 3 jobs may be bundled together, with a limit of 12 items per job and a maximum of 36 items per bundle. Note that item quantities are subject to surcharges.

My ASAP delivery option is locked. How do I enable it?

As a Business customer, ASAP will be enabled for you by default. However, if this isn't the case, you  you can contact our Sales Team to have it enabled.

To reach out to them, scroll down and tap 'Get in touch'.

If you are plugging via Sherpa's API, you need to make a minor change to your current integration to enable ASAP.

Here's how:

Step 1: Update the API POST request

In the API POST request to create deliveries (.../1/deliveries), set the “delivery_option” value as 5. Deliveries that come through with this service option will be logged as ASAP jobs.

In the response payload you can expect to receive an ETA and price for the job. For more details, please refer to the API documentation

Step 2: Notify us when you’re ready to test

When you’re ready to test your integration changes, reach out to us at escalations@sherpa.net.au and we will update your account to enable ASAP for you. We recommend using our staging server for your testing.
